Jan Kopinski NPA Red Hot Sax project at Brilliance Festival 13th July 2014

Red Hot saxophonists triumph at Rufford

Members of the Notts Performing Arts Red Hot Band joined with renowned Jazz saxophonist Jan Kopinski for a stellar performance at the Brilliance festival at Rufford in July.

The performance was the culmination of a 2 month project which saw 24 band members working with Jan on Saturday mornings in Southwell, Mansfield and Worksop.  We’ve had brilliant feedback from the young participants, many of whom are considering Performing Arts options at a higher level.  They found Jan to be a passionate and inspirational communicator.

This unique experience to work with such an accomplished jazz musician will undoubtedly inspire and motivate students and be one which will stay with them for many years to come.

The Notts Performing Arts (NPA)  Red Hot Band is a 21-piece swing and jazz ensemble for young people aged 13-19.  Students, who join through formal audition, come from all corners of Nottinghamshire to enjoy playing and develop their skills through a varied performance programme throughout the year.  Many have serious ambitions to pursue their interests into Higher Education and a career in music.

Nottingham jazz promoter – www.jazzsteps.co.uk – are delighted with the positive response from the Red Hot Band and have booked the band to perform in the Live in the Libraries sessions in autumn 2014.  JazzSteps are coordinating work with young musicians and teachers, helping develop interest and skills for music improvisation.
